Fill in the blank Friday

13 Jan

Link up with Lauren over at the little things we do.

The last thing I ate was I had some Sadaf Earl Grey tea this morning. If you want actual food, it’d be the bacon cheese fries we demolished last night.

The last song I listened to was something off the new Gavin Degraw in the car. I think it was “Run Every Time.”

Using the letters in my name, I can spell Jaclyn gives me lay, jay, clay, nay, ya … um, wow, that Y as a vowel thing totally makes this a very short list.

If I had to dress in one color the rest of my life, it’d be probably black. You can get sick of purple or green or red, but I don’t think you can get sick of something so generic.

If you were to look in my bag right now, you’d find planner, wallet, nail file, receipts, pens, lip sticks and glosses, birth control, tampon, mini brush, ID badge, sun glasses, one of those hooks you put on a table so you don’t have to put your purse on the floor, (and now I have to cheat and see what I missed), takeout menu to a Chinese restaurant opening Monday, my reporters notebook, Juicy Fruit, a little cotton pouch with extra cards in there, business cards, phone, check book, Barbie notepad.

My all-time favorite song to dance to is impossible to name! I dance to EVERYTHING. Um … “Old Time Rock and Roll” gets me every time. Following Lauren’s lead, I dig stuff that remind me of junior high dances, so “Boom Boom Boom” and “No Diggity” are good, too!

Now all, pick a blank and leave your response in the comments!

Fill in the blank Friday

16 Dec

My most favorite “little thing” is the smell of a book.

I’d give anything to make it to Italy before I turn 30. I’ve got my sight set on this coming fall.

I can’t believe I’m at more than 400 sales on Etsy. Really have no idea how that happened.

The one thing I’d like to achieve today is making it to 5 p.m. This has not been a very good week, and I’m TGIF’ing like a mother right now.

The last thing I want to do today is work late.

Writing my own blank, I guess I’ll say: The one thing I  hope I get for Christmas the most is a calm and happy Christmas. Despite Joey’s last year or so of terror, Mom says he’s been really great recently. Fingers crossed we have an equally awesome Christmas!!

My favorite candle scent is a tie between pine and this brand and scent at Kohl’s that I’m completely blanking on. Way to be specific, Jac, I know.

Fill in the blank Friday: The schmoopsy version

9 Dec

This week’s questions celebrate Lauren’s four-year anniversary with her beau. My two-year one is on the 19th, so I totally dig it in that utterly schmoopsy kind of way.

Happy day to you, Lauren!

Readers, pick a blank and fill it in in the comments. Happy weekending!

Love is easy. There’s something to be said for “Anything worth having is worth fighting for,” but really, it shouldn’t be work.

Being in love feels like comfort. It feels like home.

My favorite quote about love is “To love another person is to see the face of God.” ~Victor Hugo

The most important thing in a relationship is the golden rule. If you treat the other person how you expect to be treated, you’re pretty good to go. It can keep us from being selfish — if we’re each worried about the other person, we don’t have to worry about ourselves because we know the other person’s got our back.

A deal-breaker for me in a relationships is ooh, this depends on where we are in a relationship. I can’t see me ever wanting to date someone in the military or police force, so that’d be a deal-breaker up front. If I’m already in a relationship with someone and he cheats on me, that’s a deal-breaker; broken trust is too hard to fix. The only exception I can come up with is a Miranda/Steve kind of infidelity, a la “Sex and the City.” That may still be a deal-breaker, but that kind of one-time-thing is indicative of a problem that possibly can be fixed.

The way I show love in my relationship is oh wow, so many ways. I think “I love you” should be said every day. I like to be thoughtful, too. I leave Jeff notes sometimes on his pillow. I made him breakfast in bed last weekend. That sort of thing.

A guest post, some giveaways & a Friday of blanks

18 Nov

Sooo looking forward to this weekend! My friend Michelle is coming to visit. I haven’t seen her in months and have plans of tacos and margaritas tonight and some shopping (you know how some people are just awesome to shop with? She’s No.1 on the list), with maybe a massage thrown in there (never had one, sounds fun!).

Before we get into this week’s Fill in the Blank Friday with the little things we do, I have a few things to share:

  • First, go check out my guest post at rouge & whimsy! It’s about fashion don’ts that are actually fashion do’s. Here’s a photo teaser:

I'm wearing those earrings today. They're the fab ones I spent way too much on in Arizona a few weeks ago. I loooooove them.

  • And while you’re over at rouge & whimsy, check out her big ol’ sponsor giveaway. Not only can you win $15 to Jac & Elsie, but there’s a whole bunch of other goodies from some wonderful shops in the package. I’m lovin’ on the $20 to SewBeastly. I’d sew use it on this badboy:

And now, without further ado:

A nervous habit I have is oh man, prepare for TMI: I, like Elliott, am a nervous poo’er. Being nervous affects my poor belly big-time. I absolutely DO NOT want to eat when I’m nervous and really should just lock myself in the bathroom for the duration of the nerves. Luckily, I don’t get nervous very often.

Something that makes me sad is the folks who stand on the median or the side of the road at stop lights with cardboard signs that say some variation of “Hungry, Homeless.” One of the million and one reasons I could never live in a big city is seeing so many people in need would make me either a) poor, because I’d give too much money or buy too many sandwiches or b) cold-hearted and immune. I don’t care for either happen to me.

Today I am thankful that Michelle is coming to visit AND I get to see my fam soon! I’m also thankful I get to put up my Christmas decorations soon. I almost started last night. I got the itch!

My favorite room in my house is my family room? (I say that with a question mark because while I like my apartment, I don’t love it. I’m sick of renting.) It’s where I am the most. I like reading on the couch on weekend mornings, and it’s where I make my jewelry.

I can’t stand rude people in a movie theater. I’ve told so many people to stop texting or shut the frack up that it doesn’t even make me nervous anymore to confront them. They’re rude and need to be told to stop it, dammit.

If I had $100 to spend on whatever I wanted today, I would hold onto it for tomorrow and get Michelle and me massages.

The last person I hung out with was my beau last night. We ended up the evening listening to music while he drew at my kitchen table and I read “Under the Dome” on my couch. It was just about perfect.

Pick a blank, fill it in in the comments. Happy Friday, happy readers!! And don’t forget to enter the the folk giveaway, which ends Sunday night!

Fill in the blank Friday

11 Nov

I’m linked up with Lauren today. Link up, too, or pick a blank and leave your response in the comments!

My favorite new blog of the moment is a young black woman. I don’t think it’s new per se, but I discovered in a month or two ago, so it’s one of the newer ones I read. Ashley’s writing style is fantastic, and her posts make me think, “Yeah, we’d be friends.”

Something I am thankful for is oh, so much! Most obviously: For the wonderful friends and family who love me and make me feel special every day. Thanks, kids ❤

Something that made me laugh this week was “Big Bang Theory” last night. Sheldon’s fear of the bird … shattering the glass with the ultrasonic blast … befriending the bird … “Get back here, you stupid bird, so I can love you!” Yeah, I loved it all.

An item that is currently on my wish list is Daisy by Marc Jacobs.” I can never justify spending that much on purfume — especially when I’m such a fan of the lovely (and affordable) scents at Victoria’s Secret. Pink is ma fav. But every time I get a mag with a sampler of Daisy, I can’t help but smear it all over my wrists and neck. I’m high class.

I am excited about sleeping in tomorrow. I’m just about re-adjusted to the time change from last week’s trip to Phoenix. That three-hour difference is a bitch, let me tell you. We’d get home at 1 a.m. there and think, “Holy god, it’s FOUR A.M. at home.”

If I were a color I would be I took that quiz once. I think it said yellow. I’m pretty happy.

My favorite way to spend a chilly fall day is doing something to get me outside, even if it’s just run to the store, so I am that much happier to store myself beneath a blanket on the couch with a book.

Reminder: I’m still collecting your Awesome photos! Send them to me at jaclyn1423 at yahoo dot com. Not sure what I’m talking about? Check it out here. The photo request is toward the end.

Fill-in-the-Blank Friday, the remember-when edition

28 Oct

Happy Friday, all! I hope we all have some fantastic weekend plans ahead of us. The beau and I are hosting a Halloween party tomorrow night, so hopefully I remember to get some pics so I can share next week.

As always, this Fill-in-the-Blank Friday brought to you by the little things we do. Pick a blank and fill it in, in the comments, won’t you??

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian and/or a ballerina when I grew up.

As an adult, my dream job would be writer/editor for a magazine.

When I was younger, I wanted to be just like I actually don’t remember looking at anyone and saying, “I wanna be like her.” Maybe Carla, my cousin? She was tough and beautiful and good at basketball.

The childhood Halloween costume that I remember most was when I was a dude, in seventh grade. I probably remember it the most because it has the funniest costume. See? Right before my dad snapped the pic, he was like “Oh, here!” and handed me the beer. Awesome.

My favorite childhood toy was Barbies, which I played with until like sixth grade. Are books a toy? Because I loved (and love) books, too.

The time I got into the biggest amount of trouble when I was a kid was when I went exploring too far and too long along the creek in the backyard with my neighborhood friends. We always wandered along it, but we got into our heads on day that we’d go FURTHER THAN EVER BEFORE. We did. It did a lot of winding, so when we wandered out of the woods, we weren’t really that far from home, but we’d been gone a long time. Most of our parents were freaked out and/or livid. Totally worth it, though. We had a blast.

I get inspiration from good writers, magazines, art (especially paintings), whenever I talk to my friends Brett or Erin.

Fill in the Blank Friday

21 Oct

Before I get into this week’s edition of Fill in the Blank Friday with the little things we do, I have to share a few super cool things!

First off check out the wonderful Jac & Elsie feature over at The Mommy Times. Karen showed some love to these rockin’ upcycled sparkle earrings at Jac & Elsie.

Second, it would appear I didn’t move everything over from Women’s Jewelry to Jac & Elsie quick enough. My little experimental Etsy shop got its first sale: this beautiful silver book locket. (It came with such a sweet story: The buyer is giving the locket to her mother for her birthday, and she’s putting a black and white photo of the two of them inside. I love it! If you’d like to steal the idea, you can find more Jac & Elsie lockets here.)

I finally figured out what I’m going to do with Women’s Jewelry — it’s going to become the hub for my made-to-order 1423 bridesmaid line.

And now, without further ado …

Nothing says fall like hot apple cider around a bonfire while I’m all cozied up in jeans, a sweatshirt and scarf. Mmmmm.

My favorite autumnal tradition is dressing up for Halloween.

My favorite fall treat is hot apple cider. (Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I really like cider!)

Fall makes me think of shitty weather because I live in the Midwest and dread the coming of January and February all year long. I love fall in and off itself — the weather, the leaf colors, the CIDER — but I can’t help but focus on what it means: that winter is coming. I’m a total freeze baby, and wind causes me rage. Seriously, when an ice cold wind whips at me, I actually get angry because I want it to stop and there’s no way to push it away. I’m sane, I swear …

My go-to outfit in the fall is jeans and a sweatshirt with a cami underneath so I can forgo a bra. Yay for tiny tatas.

My favorite fall holiday is  surprisingly Thanksgiving. Despite all the Halloween love, nothing beats the way a house smells on Thanksgiving morning. My mom is a beast in the kitchen. The beau and I are spending that long weekend at my parents’, and I can’t wait to eat (even though this year the holiday will be at my aunt’s) and see my grandparents, who will be visiting from Vegas.

Pick a blank and fill it in in the comments, s’il vous plait, and a happy Friday to all! Any hot weekend plans? I’ve got a double date tonight at my favorite restaurant,  and I get to see a friend who moved out of town a year or so ago on Sunday. And, oh yes: sleeping in. Lots and lots of sleeping in.
