Quoted and noted: ‘Modern Love’

31 Oct

“We were a good story. Nothing more. He is what I would have chosen when I thought I could choose. So, I suppose that’s the point: Love chooses us.” ~ Sarah Healy, “When the Words Don’t Fit,” New York Times, 10.30.11

I once tried to force myself to love someone. He loved me well, and he was my best friend. I should have loved him in return as romantically and passionately as he loved me.

I didn’t. I couldn’t force it, and trust me: I tried.

Today, I’m in a relationship that is not forced. I didn’t try with it. It just kind of happened, and it happened romantically and passionately and beautifully.

The above quote came from a Modern Love column in the New York Times. If you have any interest in writing whatsoever — be it doing it yourself or reading the good stuff — you should be familiar with Modern Love. The stories are often simple, often run-of-the-mill, and exactly what I as a writer hope to achieve every time I put pen to paper or finger to keyboard.

I'd love to hear what you think!
