Auction No. 3: Hammered sterling earrings

2 Aug

Meet jewelry designer Katherine Kratzer, who made some amazing hammered earrings for Joey’s Auction.

The earrings are hand-forged sterling silver hoops that have been soldered and textured with a hammer, and then the silver was oxidized. The blue glass annular beads are called Dutch Dogons and were made in Germany in the 1850s. The hoop diameter is 1 inch.

She says:

“I’m a jewelry and ornamental designer and arts educator. I used to live in Jaclyn’s neighborhood in Ohio and watched both her and Joey grow up. I loved babysitting Joey when Jaclyn and her parents had places to go. (Snap, Crackle, Pop says: I loved to babysit your girls too, Katherine!) I now reside in the Chicago area and maintain a working studio and teach classes at Water Street Studios in Batavia. Please stop by for a visit!

Rats! It’s too late? I was in California, and my brain thinks it’s earlier…..I would have paid $35! 🙂
