Best. Bridesmaid duty. Ever.

20 Jun

On Friday, I stood up with one of my best friends as she married the woman of her dreams.

About a month ago, I got a voice mail from Erin. She told me she had a bridesmaid duty she needed to talk to me about. I figured she wanted me to pass out something or another bridesmaidy kind of thing.

When I called Erin and she told me what she wanted me to do, I was reminded — as if I needed reminding — of why this woman rocks.

That’s me in the blue helmet.

It was a best of three dealie. Somehow, I won. I’m blaming my height. I’m as athletic as a turtle, and not of the teenage ninja variety.

(OK, in all honesty, this was only the second best bridesmaid duty. The first was when Erin handed me the civil union license and told me to make sure she, Jen and Bear (their friend who married them) signed it so it got all legal and stuff. I looked at it and started to tear up. I looked at her and pointed to her name on the license, and to Jen’s, and said, “You’re both girls. And this is legal.” Civil union doesn’t equal marriage, but it’s a step forward at least. And I love that I got to carry that license around with me for the day.)
