Joey’s Auction 13: Wine-themed goodies

5 Aug

Meet Joyce McCartney, of Fort Wayne, Ind., who donated a whole wine-themed set. Her crafts are currently a hobby, but she hopes to start a small Etsy or ArtFire business.

What: Never lose track of your wine, martini or margarita glass with this set of eight flip-flops for flutes, which will also eliminate those nasty glass rings from perspiring glasses. The flip-flops are made using a pattern by Drew Emborsky (AKA the Crochet Dude) using Lily Sugar & Creme 100 percent cotton yarn. They are machine washable and dryable. They come with eight coordinating spiral stem charms, made using beading wire and large glass seed beads. Each charm has either a sun or moon on it.

Additionally, stop unsightly wine stains from hitting your favorite tablecloth with two wine bottle neck sleeves. Both sleeves have a button closure and fit perfectly over the neck of wine bottle. There’s no need, actually, to unbutton: just slip on the top of the bottle. The reversible sleeves are also washer and dryer safe, and they coordinate with the flip-flops and stem charms.

Finally this package includes a wine cork trivet. Don’t ruin your table top by placing a hot pot on it; slip this trivet under the hot pot to save your table’s finish. The trivet is made with wine bottle corks from wine of all types — from regional and family-owned wineries, plus some of my favorite mass marketed wines. The corks are glued using an all-purpose craft glue to the base of an empty wood frame I found at a thrift store.

How long: I started crocheting when I was 8 and just picked up sewing and beading in the last five years.

Where: I’m on Facebook and have a blog, j.a.m. Creations. I blog on crafts for work, called Crafty Living, which is also found on Twitter and Facebook.

Why: I love creating for a cause. I love how Jaclyn uses her jewelry making skills to do good (i.e. the Joey’s Hot Dog necklaces), and when she approached me to do this, I could not say no. And, I almost instantly knew what I’d make for this auction. Also, I have a great-nephew who may be autistic and anything we can do to learn more about autism is best for everyone.

This auction will be open until 11.59 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. Each day through the 14th, I will post two to three auctions. If you like the item up for grabs, place your bid in the comments, and be sure to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you should you win. Each item will be a separate post, and each post will indicate when that particular auction is over.
